We recently took a trip down to Nagasaki Peace Park, which was built in memory of the bomb dropped on the city during WWII.  It is much more than a simple monument, rather a museum -- it outlines the history of the nuclear bomb and has a rather significant collection of artifacts from the aftermath.

Unfortunately, many of the displays were rather graphic which was eye-opening, depressing and disturbing all at the same time.  It also kind of ruined the experience for the kids.  They don't allow photos to be taken inside the museum, but I think that I may have accidentally pressed the shutter release a couple times while I was walking around...
