I had planned to go to Nagasaki Bio Park yesterday and attend the Sasebo Ika and Tako Festival today, but the weather hasn't cooperated.  We had rain and thick fog all day yesterday and it looks to be more of the same today.

I don't have any new photos to post today.  But in advance of my trip to Okinawa tomorrow, here are some pictures I took when I visited there last December.  The photos here are from Ryukyu Mura (Village), which takes you back in time to experience how the Okinawan used to live.  It also provided hands-on demonstrations of some of the local arts.

The Kijimuna is a fairy that lives in the tropical gajimaru (banyan/ficus retusa) tree - an Okinawan story that has been handed down from generation to generation since ancient times.  They're rumored to be mischievous, but don't cause any serious trouble.

I'll tell you more stories of Okinawan culture when I return next week!  I won't be posting any updates in the meanwhile, so until then...
