Today we took a tour of Oshima, a small island of off the western coast of Kyushu that survives on fishing and ship repair.

Used to be that the only way to get there was by ferry, but they recently completed construction of a new bridge so you can drive there now.  Problem is, they have to recoup the cost of building the bridge, so they charge ¥700 (about $7.00) road toll - each way!!  Almost fifteen bucks to cross a bridge...but I guess if it were cheap, then it just wouldn't be Japan.

I took these pictures with my Sony Cybershot digital camera, but I forgot to check the settings before I did so.  So they're poor quality photos for two reasons:  Low resolution (only 640x480) and the date stamp is embedded.  And it's simply not worth the time it would take to remove the date stamp from low-resolution pictures.
